Datacap Gift FAQ

How do I enable Datacap Gift?

Datacap Gift is a service offered by Datacap Systems. It is configured on a merchant-by-merchant basis via Datacap’s proprietary PSCS onboarding tools. When applied to a Deployment, the POS Provider will receive a “Prepaid Merchant ID” to be configured into the POS. Each merchant (or location) will require a unique Prepaid Merchant ID.

What Reporting is available?

You can view multiple Gift Reports from the Gift section in the sidebar or by clicking “↓ show more details” from the Gift Summary section of the Reportal Dashboard.

Is there a Virtual Terminal?

A Virtual Terminal option is available via the Reporting Dashboard. This is typically designed for Phone Orders where the cardholder would offer their Account Number to a cashier over the phone. But it is also a valuable tool for any scenario where gift needs to be accessed outside of the Point of Sale. With a Prepaid MID selected, you can run a Sale, Load, or Balance. In the event that a CVV is not available, the requirement can be overridden in the Feature Flag section.

Can the cardholder check their balance online?

When Datacap provides new Gift Card Account Numbers to be printed, a Balance URL is included with each account value. The common method is for the card printer to build those URL’s into QR codes that can be printed on the cards.

Check my Balance

When visiting the Balance Site, cardholders will see both the current balance as well as the account history.

Can I share Gift Cards across multiple merchants?

Datacap Gift allows for gift cards to be shared across merchant locations via Gift Groups. Each location would still have a unique Prepaid Merchant ID, but the accounts would be pooled such that gift cards can be accepted at all locations. In the Reporting Dashboard, this specialized reporting can be found under “Gift Grouped Merchants”.

It will be important for providers to define these Gift Groups when submitting requests for new gift cards.

Are there value limits or expiration options?

Value Limits

These can be set per card range to ensure that a particular gift card can only carry a defined Maximum Balance. The default value is $500. Alternative limits should be requested during the submission for new gift cards.

Expiration Options

These can be set per card range. Expiration Dates are not defaulted, but can be specified during the submission for new gift cards.

    • Expiration Date – Allows you to set a hard date for Expiration
    • Days Until Expiration – Allows you to only make a gift card valid for a set number of days from its first use.
How do I order cards?

Datacap does not provide direct Card Printing services. We do provide the account values that would be sent to a Card Printer of your choice for designing custom artwork. We also leverage a partnership with Card Market for an integrated ordering experience via the Reporting Dashboard. If you would like an introduction, please contact our Sales Team at sales@dcap.com.
