Chalfont, PA – Datacap DataTran™ products are now approved and validated by PCI and Visa as fully PABP Compliant middleware payment solutions, and have been added to the validated software solutions lists. Designed for use with embedded ECRs and other non-Windows business systems and terminals, DataTran joins Datacap’s ePay™ solutions, validated in 2006 and other Tran products validated earlier this year. Validation confirmation of DataTran makes it easier for resellers and users to be confident that existing configurations using DataTran can be used compliantly, rather than discussing and considering whether DataTran, an embedded system device without an integral user interface, requires validation.
PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards) is a set of comprehensive requirements for enhancing payment account data security and preventing credit card fraud and related illegal activities. The standards were developed by the PCI Security Standards Council, a cooperative forum of the major payment card brands, to help facilitate broad adoption of consistent card data security measures on a global basis.
For a merchant to comply with PCI DSS they must use fully PABP compliant POS and payment solutions as well as follow PCI DSS standards for implementing them and protecting card holder data in day to day operations. While compliance is a current requirement for all merchants, processors and acquirers are now checking merchant applicants to affirm that known vulnerable POS payment solutions are not being used. Also, as of October 1, 2008 acquirers are now verifying that new merchants are in fact using PABP validated payment solutions, and by July 1, 2010 are mandated to check all of their merchants to confirm that they are using validated payment applications.
